Overlap is found the same way scrolling-screenshot stitchers work: the boundary strip of each image is scanned against a candidate range of offsets (with a small horizontal/vertical correction search), and the offset with the lowest pixel-difference score wins. All matching runs on downsampled grayscale copies for speed; the final image is always composited from your original, full-resolution files and exported as PNG so no quality is lost.
