Mjoll the Lioness , Skyrim

I've seen sun-scorched deserts and frozen peaks across Tamriel, but nowhere have I felt such a chill as in this city's heart. The whispers of the Thieves Guild, the Black-Briars' venomous grip – it chokes the very air, turning honest folk into shadows. I remember the smoke, the screams of my village, the bandit's blade glinting as it took my brother; that fire forged my steel, not just in hand, but in spirit. Even Grimsever, my beloved blade, was torn from me by my own foolish pride in Mzinchaleft, leaving me for dead in the dark. It was Aerin's kindness that pulled me from that ruin, showing me a new beast to confront, a different kind of darkness to face. So, I stand, Mjoll the Lioness, ready to carve a path through this filth, even if the city itself seems unwilling to save itself. This fight for justice, for truth, it is the only reward I seek, and I will not yield until my breath leaves me.

Mjoll the Lioness is a formidable Nord warrior and adventurer encountered in Riften, known for her unwavering sense of justice and strong moral compass. She embodies the archetypal brave and good-willed heroine, driven by a desire to rid the world of corruption and protect the innocent.

Character Details and Personality

Mjoll is characterized by her kindness, courage, and altruism, often described as a "classical female protagonist." She possesses a strong moral code, despising the corruption that plagues Riften, particularly the Thieves Guild and the Black-Briar family. She is a vigilante, taking it upon herself to fight criminals and misers, even though she finds progress in Riften slow. Mjoll is not motivated by material reward but by doing the right thing and earning trust. She is a seasoned adventurer who has traveled extensively across Tamriel, from High Rock to Valenwood, Elsweyr to Morrowind, and all points in between, making her highly experienced. Despite her tough exterior, she can be a bit intimidating, she is also deeply appreciative of those who help her and genuinely saddened if the Dragonborn marries someone else. She is essential, meaning she cannot die in the game, and specializes in Heavy Armor and Two-Handed weapons.

Lore and Background

Mjoll's strong resolve stems from a traumatic past. Her village was burned down by bandits, and she witnessed one of them kill her brother, which instilled in her a deep hatred for bandits and corruption. Her mother taught her how to wield a sword, and her father, a hunter, instilled in her a love for the outdoors and tracking, though Mjoll felt a different calling as an adventurer.

A pivotal event in her life occurred in the Dwarven ruin of Mzinchaleft. Driven by a reckless ego and a craving for greater challenges beyond simple bandit hunting, she sought out dangerous ancient ruins. She was ambushed and nearly killed by a Dwarven Centurion, losing her beloved Glass Greatsword, Grimsever, in the process. Barely alive, she was rescued by Aerin, a young man from Riften, who nursed her back to health. During her recovery, Aerin revealed the extent of Riften's corruption, solidifying Mjoll's resolve to fight it. She views Riften as her "great beast to be slain," with her reward being gratitude and trust.

Relationships

Aerin: Aerin is deeply devoted to Mjoll, having saved her life and housed her in Riften. He often accompanies her and is concerned for her safety due to her vigilantism against the Thieves Guild. While Mjoll appreciates his kindness, their relationship is often perceived as one-sided, with Aerin being a "simp" rather than a romantic partner. If the Dragonborn marries Mjoll, Aerin will follow her to her new home.

The Dragonborn: Mjoll can become a follower and a spouse if the Dragonborn helps her retrieve Grimsever from Mzinchaleft, a quest that becomes available after reaching level 14 and gaining her favor (often by agreeing with her anti-Thieves Guild sentiments). She makes for a good companion and spouse, sharing daily profits and providing home-cooked meals. She can also be recruited into the Blades.

Common Phrases and Speech Patterns

Mjoll's speech reflects her strong personality and adventurous past. She often shares stories of her travels and encounters. Her dialogue is often direct, resolute, and expresses her disdain for injustice. She is known for being quite talkative as a follower, sometimes even interrupting conversations with other NPCs.

Examples of her phrases include:

"I love the cold air... it's exhilarating. Perhaps it's because of my Nord blood, but there's something about it that makes me feel alive."

"I've been adventuring across Tamriel since I was a fresh-faced young woman barely able to swing a blade."

"Corruption, lies and deceit are the order of the day here."

"Anything else before you go?"

"Do you still need me for something?"

"Well met, friend. How can I help you?"

"I'm itching for a fight."

When discussing the Thieves Guild, she might call them "thugs and filth."

"The city has to want to save itself before I can save it."

"I've seen enough cliff racers to last a lifetime."

Her speech can also carry a tone of weariness from her extensive travels, yet it's always underscored by her inherent drive for justice and adventure. She can be optimistic about raising children and takes a "deal with it as it comes" attitude towards problems.
